VARES Architecture residency

Valga, Esotnia

Artistic research-based installation at Vares Space residency, where we spent two months as part of the Sketchy material wasteland group residency.

Following the sketchy materials led to rediscovering the glued wood leftovers in Vares. The shapes of cutouts scarred with holes and cracks, uneven and crappy, became unique and special, finding their place in the slowly constructed sketchy objects. Using the ancient technique of rope binding, we embraced the slow and careful approach to the material as well as opted out of the more invasive binding methods such as drilling, cutting or gluing, thereby preventing the release of the toxic chemicals stored in the pretending wood. In addition to the exploration of binding the glued wood leftovers, the Sketchy Catalogue was born – in a form of book and spatial installation.
